CTS seeks to prepare leaders for the work of transforming church and society toward greater justice and mercy. All academic programs—Master of Arts, Master of Divinity, Master of Sacred Theology, Doctor of Ministry, and Doctor of Philosophy—share this vision of transformative leadership.

Programs foster leadership through disciplines of study, analysis, encounter, and imagination. The methods of questioning and discovery are emphasized. The educational process at CTS is founded upon a vision of integration that seeks continually to draw the varied resources of theological reflection and ministry into critical dialogue with the experiences of our time. Through encounters with many voices and views, students are guided through critical discussion. Indeed, the theological, cultural and experiential diversity of the seminary itself is a vital integrative resource, as it makes the classroom a place of fruitful difference and mutual engagement. Through reconstructive imagination, students are urged to envision new possibilities for more just and merciful human communities.
