Doctor of Philosophy

Concentration in Bible, Culture and Hermeneutics (Jewish & Christian scriptures) andConcentration in Theology, Ethics and the Human Sciences

The purpose of the Ph.D. degree is to prepare religious leaders to work at advanced levels in a variety of teaching, counseling, research, ministry and administrative positions. Students come from across North America and around the world to study with our Ph.D. faculty. We offer two concentrations. The first is in Bible, Culture and Hermeneutics (Jewish & Christian scriptures) and the second is in Theology, Ethics and the Human Sciences. Both programs reflect the transformative commitments of our Vision Statement. Both programs emphasize interdisciplinary methods and the encounter between texts and contexts, and critical reflection.

Ph.D. students may serve as CCT teaching assistants in the Center for Community Transformation and as DEPTH interns in the DEPTH Youth Program.

Where do our Ph.D. graduates serve? They serve on seminary or university faculties in North America, Asia, Africa and Europe, in academic administration, in clinical practice, in congregational or ecclesial leadership and in social service.
