Groundbreaking Leadership, Then & Now

Social Engagement

Then
In the early 1960s, the faculty wrestled to find the best possible balance between traditional and experimental subjects in the theological curriculum. They concluded, “The seminary is more than a professional and graduate school. It is an intellectual center of the church, where the Christian message and style of life must be hammered out in direct confrontation with the secular world. The faculty conceives of its own teaching as being interdisciplinary and existential in character.”

Now
CTS and its faculty are still on the cutting edge of ministry. Innovative courses and case conferences help students critically reflect upon current events and specific contexts for ministry through their own engagement in the world. For instance, a recent course entitled, “God, Adam, and Eve: Theology & Science in the Genome Age,” considered current bioethical issues relative to genetics and asked how they interface with religion.
